On The Wharf, To The Horizon

‘On The Wharf, To The Horizon’

A young man stands on a wharf on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

The wharf appears to end at the sea’s horizon.

The young man is in fact my son, and he has relocated from New Zealand to Australia to further employment and professional ambitions, as many others his age do.

The photo, to my mind anyway, captures a solo leap, out from familiar shores to the great unknown beyond. I hope that in this case courage and vision will be rewarded!

Listen To The Lion

‘ Listen To The Lion’

Lions, of course, are symbols of courage and bravery.

Courage features in the second part of The Serenity Prayer:

“Courage to change the things I can”

I think about that which I can change at the start of the day. Whether I act depends largely on whether I have the guts to do so.

Some leonine musical inspiration comes from Irish singer-songwriter in one of his more extended songs:

” I shall search my very soul

  for the lion

 inside of me”

(Mr. Morrison really rips loose with the vocal chords on this number; the repetition too, as he hits full trance and utters the phrase “listen to the lion” over and over again at one point in the song. It makes for one of his more challenging listens, but that’s possibly the point. I still marvel that Van, well into his musical work by then, was still only 26 or so when this track was recorded – it sounds like someone with way more time and miles under the belt).

Pandemic Triptych

Pictures from the last three posts presented as a triptych – three separate panels but meant to be taken as an entirety.

Sort of like the coronavirus pandemic itself – separated, isolated events which, in the end, affect the whole.

Anyway, I hope there is something in the images to interest or inspire you; I am grateful if it does.

Most of all, people – stay safe, have courage and be kind!

The Boat House

A shot of a boat house sitting serenely over water near my Auckland home.

I am not a boatie or sailor by any stretch of the imagination ,but I admire those who cast off from shore, voyaging ,for adventure on the sea.

So this place appeals to me.

It is by appearance a simple, linear design, with utilitarian function.Boats are stored inside and launched from it.

But it is also the departing place for courage and dreams and happiness, and that makes it magical.
