‘Woman’
…graceful, elegant, self-aware – an essence rendered…

My previous post The Presence Of Passion featured a single rose.
Here are a few more.
My then six year old daughter, in pinkish garb, takes in the fragrance of a neatly matching rose flower.
It was possibly the first time she had done so.
Freshness.
Discovery.
Mindfulness.
The saying “take time to smell the roses” is almost a cliche of mindfulness rhetoric.
But how often do we not do that exact thing? We know what they look and smell like. But we take them for granted, ignore them and so deprive ourselves of sensory moments of joyful rediscovery.
There are thousands of such moments that pass us by because we are think we are too busy ,or have simply become blase.
We have to make time for joy and newness in our lives,to discover and replenish.
For time is of the essence, just as rose petals are crushed to form the essence of perfume.
Which brings a telling song lyric to mind:
” If you don’t stop to smell the roses now
They might end up on you “
( Husker Du , ‘These Important Years ‘)

“How many cares one loses ,when one decides not to be something ,but someone.”
– Coco Chanel
This quote has almost been my mantra in the past year or so.
The creeping realisation came that I was defining myself by my various jobs, roles and external expectations , not by my core, essence and natural intuition. And I was losing myself in the process.
The labels that the world uses to pigeonhole us should not stick to us through everything , or anything all really, but they do .
Be warned ,you might just have to break a jar or two to lose those labels, and just be someone – you.
Glass broken, cares lost….

Artwork in an arched alcove…try saying that ten times at speed…
Or, ponder this: If asked to describe ourselves ,we focus on our nature and attributes.
But what of our influence – that arc, or sphere, or ripple outwards?
Our essence projected on the world.
What does our arc look like? Where can we effect change ?

Everything, and everybody, has a centre or core from which it or their essence radiates away from. The spider’s web.The yucca tree.You.Me.
Lose that centre and you have no outward effect or influence.Compromise your essence and your impact is diluted.
Nurture and look after what is good at your core!
