‘Valkyrie’ Vandalised’
I posted a photo of my favourite Auckland statue just a few weeks ago in Statuesque Sunshine , and some time ago in Statue: ‘Valkyrie’.
The statue, a fountain actually, had suffered losing its flow of water during a recent drought, and the gates to it had been locked for the past couple of years for reasons unknown.
But now this final indignity:

A local newspaper reports of the vandalism and ruin of the bronze and marble monument.
I was quietly stunned, and saddened.
Utterly pointless…
The statue may not be able to be repaired, the news article states.
I hope some restorative magic can be applied to the once lovely work, I really do.
If not, I feel that I have lost a friend of sorts.

‘That Striped Sunlight Sound’
I’m a massive music fan, and have been on a recent trawl though my Go-Betweens collection. The Aussie indie group titled a late live album ‘That Striped Sunlight Sound’. I was in an Auckland park in the early morning this week and the sun streamed though the trees, including the nikau palm pictured. It immediately reminded me of the album title, connecting the visual with the songs in my head. This post is in homage to the band I love.

‘Repetition #9’
Close up of monochromatic artwork by Tongan artist Sione Faletau on display in a downtown Auckland public space. Repetitive motifs are a feature of his work.

‘T Rex! 2’
…just how I like my dinosaurs – extinct and skeletal. As a fellow blogger has commented, one would not have to have run into one of these creatures in their prime!

‘T Rex!’

‘On The Waterfront’
Auckland’s Tamaki Drive on the Waitemata Harbour – one of the great urban waterfronts. A gusty nor’-easterly wind was up at the time I took this shot last week, as the crests of the waves attest.
