Disturbed

‘Disturbed’

On the surface of things, it’s a tranquil scene of coastal New Zealand.

Nothing disturbing, but something is disturbed.

The high winds and hard rain blew through here only minutes ago.

In the distance, there is a thick haze.

It is neither fog nor smoke.

The sand off the dunes and sandspit has been temporarily displaced into the air.

What was on the ground is now airborne.

There are those moments in our lives too, when havoc wreaks and major disturbance occurs.

When everything is up in the air.

It’s uncomfortable for sure.

But when you are in that space there is, if nothing else, the chance to see things from another, different, perspective.

And sometimes after the chaos, there will be a sense of tranquility.

If you are in “the churn”, I hope you find that, I really do.

Breakwater !

20191008_213506.jpg

North Sea waves piledrive into the breakwater of the harbour at Pittenweem, Scotland yesterday.

The title of this post has an exclamation  mark to bear witness to the velocity of wind and waves that roared and smashed during my stroll along the breakwater at dusk.Spectacular!

Powerful and unrelenting forces of nature versus man’s cunning engineering.

The breakwater protects fishing and other vessels in the harbour, where it is artificially calm.

Of course ,there are a lot less boats owing to the decline in the fisheries.

One day there may be no more haddock, crabs, lobster and prawns.

And,maybe no more breakwater if the sea has its revenge…

The Real You II

Following on from my previous post The Real You, and the quote from Don Miguel Ruiz contained in it, this photo taken yesterday shows the  beauty of the west coast of New Zealand.

The quote likened the wind and ocean as signifiers of our true essence.

Fresh (like the wind you can’t see here ,but believe me, it was, erm, invigorating, to say the least!).

Wild.

Unspoiled.

Not yet tamed.

That is the real you.

Take a trip out to your proverbial coastline and  find, or re-find, it!

The Real You

IMG_2003 (2).JPG

“Just imagine becoming the way you used to be when you were a child, before you understood the meaning of any word, before opinions  took over your mind. The real you is loving, joyful and free. The real you is just like a flower, just like the wind, just like the ocean, just like the sun.”
