In Aotearoa/ New Zealand, it’s heating up! The buds pictured above will become the brilliant red flowers of the Pohutukawa ( the “NZ Christmas Tree”) shown below.
The earlier the blooms come, the better the summer, supposedly.

I have posted before with images of the above ground roots systems of the Australian Moreton Bay Fig tree.This shot was actually taken in Brisbane on a recent trip there.
The patterns of the roots are dramatic; their tightly packed vertical connections are very photogenic I think!
